UGC Net Exam date 2025 subject wise – The UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is a big exam in India for students who want to become college teachers or researchers. It’s held twice a year—in June and December—by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This article explains everything about the UGC NET Exam Date 2025, especially for the June session, and how it’s organized for different subjects.

    What is UGC NET ?

UGC NET is a national exam that checks if you’re ready to be an Assistant Professor (a college teacher) or get a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The JRF gives you money to study for a Ph.D. The exam is run by the NTA, which works with the University Grants Commission (UGC). It started in 1989 and is one of the most important exams for people who want to teach or do research in India.

    • Assistant Professor: A job where you teach students in colleges or universities.

    • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): A scholarship to help you do research while studying for a Ph.D.

    Why is UGC NET Important?

Clearing UGC NET is a big deal because:

    • It lets you apply for teaching jobs in colleges and universities across India.

    • If you get a JRF, you get money to help with your Ph.D. studies.

    • Many colleges only hire teachers who have passed UGC NET.

This exam is like a key that opens doors to exciting careers in teaching and research.

UGC NET Exam Dates for 2025

The UGC NET June 2025 exam will happen from June 25, 2025, to June 29, 2025. It will take place over 5 days, and different subjects will be tested on different days. How Are Subjects Scheduled?

The UGC NET exam doesn’t test all 85 subjects on the same day. Instead:

    • The exam is spread over 10 days for the June session.

    • Each day has two shifts: morning (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM) and afternoon (3:00 PM to 6:00 PM).

    • Different subjects are tested in different shifts and days.

For example, English might be on June 22 in the morning shift, while Physics might be on June 25 in the afternoon shift. The exact schedule will be released by the NTA a few weeks before the exam. Keep checking the official website to know when your subject’s exam is.

    Subjects in UGC NET

The UGC NET exam covers 85 subjects, so there’s something for almost everyone! These subjects are grouped into categories like:

    • Arts and Humanities: English, History, Political Science, Philosophy

    • Social Sciences: Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Education

    • Sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Environmental Science

    • Commerce: Commerce, Management, Accountancy

    • Computer Applications: Computer Science and Applications

    • Others: Law, Library Science, Indian Knowledge System, Ayurveda Biology

You need to pick a subject that matches your Master’s degree. For example, if you studied History in your Master’s, you’ll take the UGC NET exam for History. The full list of subjects and their codes is on the official UGC NET website (ugcnet.nta.ac.in).

Who Can Apply for UGC NET?

To take the UGC NET exam, you need:

    • A Master’s degree with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC, SC, ST, or PwD candidates).

    • Your subject should match one of the 85 UGC NET subjects.

For example, if you have a Master’s in Economics, you can take the Economics exam. If your subject isn’t listed, you can choose a related subject, like Women’s Studies for Humanities.

    Exam Pattern

The UGC NET exam has two papers, both taken in one 3-hour session:

    • Paper 1: Same for everyone, with 50 questions (100 marks). It tests teaching and research skills, like reasoning and general knowledge.

    • Paper 2: Based on your subject, with 100 questions (200 marks).

Both papers have multiple-choice questions (MCQs) answered on a computer. Each correct answer gives 2 marks, and there’s no penalty for wrong answers.

    Syllabus

The syllabus is different for each paper:

    • Paper 1: Covers teaching skills, research methods, reasoning, reading comprehension, and basic computer knowledge.

    • Paper 2: Depends on your subject. For example, the English syllabus includes literature and grammar, while Physics includes topics like mechanics and electricity.

You can download the full syllabus from ugcnet.nta.ac.in.

    Preparation Tips

Here are some simple tips to help you prepare:

    1. Know the Syllabus: Check the syllabus for Paper 1 and your subject to know what to study.

    2. Use Good Books: Study from textbooks and online resources made for UGC NET.

    3. Practice Old Papers: Solve past years’ question papers to understand the exam.

    4. Take Mock Tests: Practice tests on a computer to get ready for the real exam.

    5. Manage Time: Practice answering questions quickly since you have only 3 hours.

    6. Stay Updated: Check the official website for news about exam dates and schedules.

    After the Exam

    After the exam:

    • The NTA releases an answer key to show correct answers.

    • Results come out a few weeks later, with cut-off marks for each subject and category (General, OBC, SC, ST, PwD).

    • If you score above the cut-off, you qualify for Assistant Professor or JRF.

    Benefits of Clearing UGC NET

Passing UGC NET is exciting because:

    • You can apply for teaching jobs in colleges and universities.

    • If you get JRF, you receive money to help with your Ph.D. studies.

    • It makes you stand out as a qualified teacher or researcher.
